Quick Review of Arrival for ME2

Published 2011-03-29 by Aoide.

Arrival is the last installment of DLC for Mass Effect 2 and it finishes setting the stage for Mass Effect 3. The DLC begins with Admiral Hackett (voiced by the amazing Lance Henriksen) informing Shepard of a missing undercover operative named Amanda Kenson in Batarian Space. Reportedly, she has evidence of a Reaper invasion. It's essential for Shepherd to rescue the operative. But when Shepherd learns what Kenson knows and what she is involved in, Shepherd has a terrible decision to make for the galaxy.

Shepherd must take on this mission solo. This I found to be the weakest part of the DLC. I looked forward to rushing back into battle with my chums, Thane and Garrus, but was left all to my lonesome. This did not impede the progression through the DLC though; combat was fairly balanced in this solo mission. Plus, when all you do is head shot people with the sniper rifle you can plow through things pretty fast.

The writing is solidly Bioware. It was made for fans who simply want more, and what it gives you is more. Shepherd is still a badass, a hero, and the one hope for the galaxy. If you enjoyed the writing in MA2, you'll like the writing here. It wasn't as good as Lair of the Shadow Broker, but is still enjoyable.

Arrival isn't very long, but it is fun. At only about seven dollars it's reasonably priced. For a Bioware/ME fan (which I definably am) it's worth it.
